Macron denounces nationalism during WW1 commemorations

From Reuters: Armistice celebrations saw French President Macron directly denounce nationalism. This all while US President Donald Trump – a self-proclaimed nationalist – was in attendance. President Macron called nationalism “a betrayal of patriotism.”

President Macron has long been sceptical of Trump’s “America First” agenda, as have virtually all members of the EU. Trump – and his closest advisers – are pursuing a tactic of breaking up the EU. While this is not only unpopular among European leaders, it seems that it is also not working. Since the Brexit referendum in the UK, support for the EU has actually gone up in certain countries, e.g. in Denmark.
